Hello! This site rocks! Thank you so much for your hard work. I've found some very nice materials for my students here, keep it up, please! I'll be waiting for new activities! A hug from Portugal

Cartuxa said...

By the way, I was wondering if you could also start a French as a Second Language blog with this kind of materials...or if you could tell me if there are any... I think that there aren't many useful sites regarding French learners and my son could use some help. He's got good grades but I think it's very important to go further, to practice out of school. Here's the tip! THanks for reading :)

Mrs.Brendlin said...

Well, I don't think that I'll -at least for the moment- start a FLE blog because currently I'm still trying to put in place my English site. Indeed, there're many things I'd like to do on it (for just giving you some examples: posting and finding a design for grammar articles; creating some videos thanks to PowerPoint; see if I can create hotpotatoes activities or buying a didapages license -for creating interactive books- and many other things...) But it’s true that I really appreciate the idea of having other “as a Second Language” blogs and I don’t exclude the fact of doing some but I just want to wait a little for that. As for your son, well, I’ll see what I can do for finding some FLE sites for him. Best regards, Samantha.

I believe that it´s an interesting activity for you and that you´ll improve your english while sharing with others your findings through your website. Congratulations!

But as for your question, well I do not. Indeed the activities which are on my site aren't my creations -except for the "Homemade" ones. I have only looked at some of the activities at your website (sorry - time constraints ;-/ and I feel there are some things you might improve:
1. The first activity on clothes: NOBODY will remember that many items at one go, so you may either divide the video in smaller chunks and assign appropriate exercises to it or drop it altogether. As such it's useless.
2. The matching task on weather seems actually quite nice apart from one technical thing - if possible why don't you try to spread the pictures and phrases throughout the page more because as you progresss in the task, you cover your own work and it's hard to do. The student makes it difficult for him/herself. But overall it's fun.

Good luck on your endeavors! best, joanna

Mrs.Brendlin said...

Thanks for you advice and your interesting comment!
Well, for the video about the clothes, I don't share your point of view dear Joanna, indeed, I think that it is good to show pupils that it exists many ways of saying the things (as for example, with "Boxer shorts" and "Underpants")
I remember, that a little earlier in the year my Spanish teacher, gave us a worksheet with more than sixty or seventy vocabulary words in it but we had just to recall ten or fifteen, so! I believe it just able learners to choose what they think are the most important/interesting words to remember!
The activities which will follow will be each about ten or again fifteen words, for making it, as you said, easier to learn!
After, for what's about the "Homemade" exercises made thanks to the site "LearningApps", just know that unfortunately I couldn't do anything for fixing the problem..
But I'm still looking for other apps, or sites that will allow me to do something better!!
Have a nice end of day.
Samantha.

I found your blog very useful and interesting. I especially liked the variety of activities and resources. I'm planning on actually using some of them with my daughter.

I am an English lecturer at the university and my only advice for you is to give more information about all those precious resources you've got there. I mean there are so many useful links there, but a short description of each of them would be highly appreciated. Otherwise internet users will not take the time to open each of them and have a look and consequently, they will not find the blog useful.

Keep up the good work!

I wıll continue to follow your blog ;)

Great job!

Mrs.Brendlin said...

Oh, you know, your comment really touched me! Thanks for having taken the time to tell me your impressions about what I do!
Well, as you, I've thought about the possibility of writing a short description for each link which appears in my articles but I ended up with the conclusion that:
- It wouldn't be that useful as sometimes I wouldn't have much to say than: "This is a matching exercise. In it are used the words..."
- It will somehow spoil the design of the articles.
And that's why I decided not to do it... But if you have further ideas about the topic, and know how I could do for solving those two problems, feel free to tell me!
Samantha.

Ps: Maybe can I do it for the pages -Grammar and Vocabulary, Reading, Listening and Watching- Well, I'll think about it more seriously when I have time.

You did an excellent job organizing all of these resources. The design is great and easy to navigate. You could make the home page more attractive.

Hi Samantha,
Are you really a 9th grade student? If so, I'm quite impressed by the amount of time and effort you've put into this site! I think you show promise as a language teacher, and I am looking forward to seeing some of your original materials in the future. Keep up the good work!

Thanks a ton for your sweet message my dear!
Well, I've to admit that you're true, for the moment the homepage isn't really creative nor original due to my -temporary I hope- lack of imagination and time! But I'll try to change that as soon as possible!
Samantha.

You know, this kind of message always touch me a lot! Thanks for taking the time to leave it. ;)
But btw, even if it can be a little difficult to believe, that indeed the truth! I'm in 9th Grade -soon 10th!- and will celebrate my fifteenth birthday in August!
